6-Day Tunisia Walking Tour Itinerary

Day 1Tunis - Zaghouan - Zriba Olia - Kairouan

Begin trekking in Tunisia with a hike along the scenic trails of the Tunisian Dorsal Mountains near Zaghouan, surrounded by olive groves and rocky landscapes. As you hike, take in views of the countryside and the rugged terrain, experiencing the region’s natural beauty up close. Arrive in Zriba Olia, an ancient Berber village nestled in the hills, where you’ll enjoy a BBQ lunch prepared in the open air.

The hike continues to Zriba’s historic ruins and vantage points, offering panoramic views of the valley. Later, head to Kairouan, where you’ll have dinner and settle in for an overnight stay.

Day 2Kairouan - Tozeur

Start the day with a leisurely Tunisia walking tour through Kairouan’s Medina, exploring the narrow streets lined with artisans, vendors, and vibrant textiles. This city, rich in tradition, offers a glimpse into the daily life and culture of Tunisia. Stroll past historic monuments, feeling the centuries of history around you, and take in the intricate architecture of the Great Mosque and other landmarks.

Day 3Tozeur - Tamerza - Chebika - Mides - Tozeur

The morning kicks off with a cooking class led by a local chef, who introduces you to Tunisian flavors and techniques as you prepare a traditional dish. After lunch, set out on a 4WD adventure to explore the breathtaking oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides.

Hike through Chebika’s rocky paths, passing cascading springs and shaded pools, and then move on to Tamerza, where a stunning waterfall creates a lush pocket of greenery in the desert. At Mides, enjoy a more challenging hike along the edges of dramatic canyons, with sweeping views of the rugged landscape. Return to Tozeur in the evening for a well-deserved rest.

Day 4Chott El Jerid - Douz Desert

An early start takes you across Chott El Jerid, an expansive salt flat known for its surreal landscape and mirror-like reflections. Enjoy a brief walk to take in the salt pans and formations before reaching Douz, where local camel riders await.

Set off on a challenging 5-hour trek across rolling dunes, guided by local camel riders who share insights into desert life and lore. Stop for lunch amidst the dunes, surrounded by the vast, quiet landscape. As evening approaches, arrive at your desert camp, where a traditional Berber dinner awaits, followed by an evening of stargazing.

Day 5Matmata - Gabes - Sousse

Journey to Matmata, famous for its troglodyte homes carved into the rock by Berber inhabitants. Hike through this unique desert village, experiencing the rugged landscape and the lifestyle of its residents. Visit Sidi Driss, a well-known filming location for Star Wars, and then head to the Chenini Oasis in Gabes for a scenic bike tour through the lush palm groves.

Day 6El Jem - Hammamet - Tunis

After exploring this iconic structure, continue to Hammamet for a thrilling quad tour followed by a hike through the trails of Sidi Jedidi.
